Political Features

The president of Tanzania is elected for a five year term.  After the president is elected he chooses a vice president, a prime minister, and a cabinet.  Tanzania’s population number is 30,608,769.  The capital is Dar Es Salaam.  Dar Es Salaam has a population of 1,734,000.  Other major cities are Tanga (pop. 187,634), Mwanza (pop. 233,013), and Godoma (pop. 203,833). 

Tanzania has a unicameral (one chamber) legislature called the National Assembly. 

The current president is Benjamin William Mkapa.  The Vice President is Dr. Mohmed Ali Sheni.  The Prime Minister is Frederick Sumaye.
